Bicentennial Bell
July 12, 13
The date of July 12th and 13th has been chosen for the making of the Wyandot County Bicentennial Bell.  The hand made bell will take two days to make and will be made out in the open.

On the first day, 500 pounds of bronze bricks will be added to a furnace and will be heated to 2,200 degrees which should take about 2 hours. While this is taking place, the personalized mold will be prepared.  The mold will be customized for Wyandot County.  The mold will be in a steel box that weights more than 500 pounds.  When the bronze reaches 2,200 degrees, they will pour it into a ladle and then into the mold and it will cool over night.  There will be a special crane to help with this process.

On the second day, a sledgehammer will be used for the ceremonial first swings to crack the sand-resin mixture.  It will take over 4 hours for the bell to be polished to a high shine.  Part of the bell will be treated with stain and polished again.  This will produce a unique look.  After all of the polishing, the bell will be ready to be dedicated and rung for the first time.

Local blood drives are being urged to meet and exceed their goals during the summer months to help curb the blood shortage.

The Wyandot County Chapter of the American Red Cross have scheduled the following blood drive; July 15 at the American Legion in Carey from Noon to 6 pm

Donors must be at least 17 years of age and weigh between 110 and 350 pounds. Donors can give blood every 56 days. Donors should keep in mind that they shouldn't donate when they have a cold or flu, have had a heart attack or stroke within six months to one year, or have received a tattoo or transfusion within the last year. People donating are encouraged to eat iron rich foods at least three days prior and to eat something before donating.
