County Historical Society Sponsors Dinner to Benefit McCutchen Overland
Inn
The
McCutchen Overland Inn was built in 1829 and functioned as a stagecoach
stop, hotel, and later, an apartment building. It was purchased by the
Wyandot County Historical Society in 1964 and opened as a museum in 1967
after several years of restoration work by hard working locals.
Once again, the Inn is in need of extensive repair. This summer, the
Society tore down the log cabin kitchen, which was deteriorating so
badly it was pulling down the rest of the building. Currently, the
foundation is being worked on. Next, the roof will be replaced. Finally,
the log cabin will be rebuilt.
The Society needs your help to preserve this historic building. On
Saturday, October 6, a fund-raising dinner will be held at the
McCutchenville Community Center, located on State Route 53 in
McCutchenville. Cocktails are at 5:30 and dinner will be served at 6:00.
The menu consists of salad and fresh fruit, bread basket, pork
tenderloin, parsleyed new potatoes, buttered corn, and home made
desserts. Tickets are a $20.00 donation to the Overland Inn Restoration
Fund and are available at the First National Bank, McCutchenville
Branch, Schuster’s Flowers in Upper Sandusky, and the Wyandot County
Museum, Upper Sandusky. You may also email the museum to reserve your
tickets at wchs@udata.com.
