OUR WORK MATTERS TO GOD

One of the great questions of life is "what is God's plan for my life as it relates to work?" The

Good Lord did not create us to simply fill space. He has a plan for each person and He desires

that we enjoy the work that He has created us for. However it is not always easy to discover what work it is that we are designed to do.

So how does a person uncover what "work" they should be doing? There is not an easy answer to this question, but the first place to begin is by acknowledging that the Lord does have a plan of work (defined as a career - a series of jobs, functions, or roles) for each of us. His plan for you may be to be a farmer, doctor, accountant, factory worker, homemaker, self-employed, or politician. His plan may include being one or more of those just mentioned.

Secondly, to learn what your work should be, we must seek Him concerning it. The Lord will speak to us and lead us in the right direction if we simply seek Him. We may not get all the insights and answers all at once (rarely does that happen), but as we sincerely look to Him for the answers, He will direct our path.

Thirdly, we must walk out by faith what we sense Him saying to us. If our focus is on Him and doing His will for our lives, we can then take actions that we believe to be His leading. The Lord will honor these steps-of-faith and lead us to where He wants us to be.

Fourthly, we must continually acknowledge and thank Him for what He is doing in our lives. As we acknowledge Him and give thanks, He will direct our steps. Even if we have made some wrong turns in our life, He is big enough to handle them. He is an expert at getting us back on the right path and keeping us there.

In the end, of course, each of us must make a decision regarding our work. No one else can make choices for us. In making choices concerning our work, we find that those decisions are largely subjective. The work decisions include consideration of family, income, location, abilities, skills, interests education, and opportunities available. Our work matters to God and He wants to see us fulfilled in our work.
