Internet recruiting is rapidly replacing traditional advertising methods and is making an impact on how Human Resources approaches the hiring process. Use of the Internet is forcing employers to re-think how they approach local, national, and international recruiting and they are recognizing the potential of technology and are beginning to take advantage of it.

The Internet is a legitimate recruiting tool and offers many options in developing the recruiting process. As Human Resource Professional begin to use the Internet for recruiting, there are six steps to developing an online recruiting strategy.

1. Familiarize themselves with the Internet

2. Research the market

3. Define the target audience

4. Determine their search needs

5. Compare costs

6. Continue experimenting

A company faces many options when choosing to advertise career opportunities online. Adding opportunities to existing corporate web sites is the most widely used. Other available options include online help wanted classified ads and virtual job fairs.

1. Lower cost-per-hire

2. Faster turnaroung time

3. Better quality candidates

4. World-wide and local access to potential candidates

5. 24 hour a day, 7 days a week advertising

6. Online application forms

7. Submission of online resumes

8. Ability to effectively promote employment benefits

The growth of Internet present employers with some very exciting and innovative ways to recruit. To remain competitive, Human Resource Professionals are learning just how valuable a resource the Internet is in filling all levels of positions.
