Big Cuts Proposed At Tri-Rivers
05-23-2008

Cutting seven positions, saving a total of $480,260, is the first step towards saving $1 million according to recommendations from Superintendent Chuck Speelman to the Tri-Rivers Board of Education.

3 teachers are vacating their positions which the school will not fill. Two other teachers are resigning and their science jobs will be consolidated. Two positions currently staffed – an information technology position and a computer lab instructor – would be cut as well.

Also getting eliminated is the Fast Forward to Business college prep program and the advisory position associated with that program.

Several other positions could be filled with lower salaries. These steps are being taken as Tri-Rivers is projected to have a $55,000 deficit in 2009.

Other steps being considered include the outsourcing of custodial and technology department duties, reducing the number of aides, and cutting more positions.
