Ohio gasoline prices have backed down after coming a whisker away from the record, but they're still 8 cents higher than a week ago.
According to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, the current statewide average for a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.33, up from $3.25 last Monday.
The survey shows Ohio motorists are paying 90 cents more for a gallon of gas than they were last year at this time.
Even so, prices have eased a bit from Friday, when the Ohio average for regular was $3.39, just under last May's record of $3.40.
