Senate Bill 46, sponsored by Senator Larry Mumper, was passed by the Ohio Senate.
The bill requires volunteer youth sports coaches to sign a conduct and ethics policy before the season begins.
The policy means the coach pledges to treat players, officials, parents, and other coaches respectfully; promises to keep a player from doing anything that could harm health or safety; give equal opportunity to participants, follow rules of competition, and report violations.
Any coach breaking the rules could be subjected to penalties by the Parks and Recreation Association.
The bill must still pass the House.
