A new scholarship will await local students planning on going into certain programs that are currently being promoted by the the state and federal government.
Arthur and Ann Lowe presented The Ohio State University at Marion with a $50,000 check Wednesday which will be used to finance a scholarship for students attending the school while pursuing a major in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. These are also known as the STEM majors.
Recently, the State of Ohio has added emphasis to those majors as means to bring and keep more advanced jobs in the state.
The Lowes, who are both college graduates and pursued careers in investment, attended the donation announcement.
“We love this community and this is our way of giving back,” explained Ann.
The scholarship is unique at OSUM in that it will be one of only two portable scholarships. Portable scholarships are awards that follow a student to any school they might attend.
