Ohio Group Names Most Loved Books
12-31-2009

The Buckeye Children's Book Award Council has announced the winners of the 2009 Buckeye Children's Book Award and the 2009 Teen Buckeye Award.

The following titles were chosen in an online voting process by young readers all across the state of Ohio:

  • For kids grades kindergarten through 2nd, The Chicken of the Family, written by Mary Amato and illustrated by Delphine Durand
  • For kids in grades 3rd through 5th, Found, written by Margaret Peterson Haddix
  • For kids in grades 6th through 8th, Cracker! The Best Dog in Vietnam, written by Cynthia Kadohata
  • And for teens, The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins

Ohio's book award is unique among other state book award programs in that the nominated and winning titles are entirely selected by children. Teachers and librarians who encourage their students to participate in the Buckeye Children's book Award reading/nominating/voting process report an enthusiastic response.
