Marion Technical College will welcome 35 new members into Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at the Beta Nu Pi Formal Induction Ceremony being held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Morrill Hall Auditorium.

Beta Nu Pi is a part of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Society for community colleges. PTK's mission is to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Once inducted, students are involved in campus and community projects, can earn scholarships, and a chance to travel to Dallas, TX for the PTK National Conference.

Judge Teresa Ballinger is the keynote speaker for the event. Marion County Municipal Court Judge Teresa L. Ballinger was born in Marion, Ohio, and graduated from Pleasant High School in 1975. She attended Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio and received a BA in Psychology in 1979. In 1984, Judge Ballinger returned to Ohio Dominican and completed her education degree. She received her JD from Capital University Law School located in Columbus, Ohio in 1994.

The ceremony will also host speakers Tiffany McEldowney and Judy O'Hara. They are both former presidents of our Beta Nu Pi chapter.

The public is invited and welcome to attend the ceremony. A small reception will be held following the induction.
