A 16-year-veteran volunteer firefighter from Harpster was killed Monday evening responding to a call.

Richard L. Kear, 58, was driving a fire truck in response to a vehicle fire on Ohio 294 in Wyandot County.

The truck went off the right side of the road and rolled over into a culvert.

Kear was ejected from the vehicle.

Darrin Rowland, who was also in the truck at the time of the accident, performed first aid on Kear who was taken by helicopter to Grant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:55 PM.

The accident remains under investigation.
