Man Sentenced For Mercury Spill
07-02-2008

A Bellville man who contaminated the Morrow County Courthouse with mercury was sentenced to 10 years in prison for that case, as well as seven counts of gross sexual imposition.

Tommy Chris Hansen, 56, was sentenced to one year for each of the count of gross sexual imposition with six of those years to run consecutively. Hansen was also sentenced to four years on the charge of criminal use of a chemical weapon.

Hansen had been indicted in 2007 for the sexual charges. On June 27th, two days before a pretrial hearing, Courthouse employees were evacuated after the mercury was discovered.

Hansen was also fined $10,000 and ordered to pay $84,943 in restitution.

He will be eligible for parole in five years.
