Late Cutting of Alfalfa is Risky 10-26-2005 With the recent warm temperatures and good moisture this fall, alfalfa has grown exceptionally well. Dr. Mark Sulc, Extension Specialist, OSU Extension reports that growers fear that leaving the lush alfalfa growth will smother itself out this winter. The excessive alfalfa growth will not harm the stand. In past years, where there was as much growth as this fall, a problem with crop "smother out" has never been experienced. |
Heating Costs Alternatives: Do I Really Save Money? 09-05-2005 Energy prices have affected everyone in Wyandot County, but soon we will not only feel the pressure when filling up the car but also in heating our homes. I have had many discussions with people interested in finding alternative or supplemental sources of energy to heat their homes. |

Slugs are Feeding on Crops and Gardens 06-01-2005 Agronomists Ron Hammond and Bruce Eisley with the Ohio State University noted that slug egg hatch has occurred and they are now getting reports of slug injury in corn and soybean fields. However, in some fields numerous marsh slugs, the occasional small dusky or banded slugs, and even a few older adult gray garden slugs have been found. |
Making Replant Decisions 05-16-2005 Most farmers in Wyandot County had the opportunity to get some corn planted in mid-April.
